You knew I was bound to have an opinion about this one. So here it is: I loved the Season 4 premiere episode of The Walking Dead. Unfortunately, a great deal of the episode was already meal-pieced together in the 4-minute trailer that was released at the San Diego Comic Con earlier this year. In that regard, it left little room for surprises. However….those surprises were pretty awesome.
Here is a link you can use to read a complete, very detailed and spoiler filled recap of TWD S4-01.
Now, here’s my spoiler-filled two-cents…
The chick in the woods, the one with her husband “Heady”, scared the bejeezus out of me. For a split second, my worst fear hit me: Walkers that can think and speak! Then I realized that she was just filthy and at her breaking point. The girl was off her rocker and with good reason. I was deathly afraid of her throughout my first viewing of the show. But, when I watched it the second time, I merely pitied her. Both times, however, I thought Rick was a dumbass. Just saying.
Everyone and their mother has an opinion about what happened to Patrick. I do NOT think it has anything to do with the deer meat he thanked Daryl for at the start of the show. If the meat had been contaminated, others would also be falling ill. I do NOT think it has anything to do with the water supply. For starters, pictures were posted in Entertainment Weekly over the summer showing Daryl and others using bandanas to guard their noses and mouths. That denotes and airborne toxin in my book. And why shouldn’t there be? I mean, I’ve been complaining since Season 1 that the survivors on this show have skated by unaffected by nature. I don’t live in GA, but the weather in neighboring SC isn’t much different. We do have ridiculously hot and humid summers, as showcased on TWD. However, we have frequent major thunderstorms throughout the year. We seem to be under severe storm threats and tornado watches for a good portion of Spring and Summer. We get tropical weather that blows in from the Gulf during hurricane season. And, believe it or not, the Atlanta, GA area gets more snow and ice than we do. We live in the allergy and asthma capital of the United States, as well. Add Flu season to the mix–on top of other fun communicable diseases that ravage third-world countries on a daily basis, especially those that are without vaccination, good hygiene, and universal precautions. It’s a wonder that a storm hasn’t decimated them yet or that the simple bug that causes the common cold hasn’t ripped through their camp. The undead aren’t the only threat…weather and disease are coming. And it’s about time. I would be more worried about learning the identity of whomever is feeding the walkers from the inside. Is someone still loyal to the Governor? It’s definitely an adult, based on the sneak preview for next week (the person feeds a rat to a walker through the fence and their hand is equal to head-height of the walker, denoting an adult sized person. The hand was lighter in color, but I was unable to determine in that quick glimpse whether it was a male or female hand). My money is on Karen. Why not?
I do NOT think, as is a rumor running around social media, that there is anything going on between Daryl and Beth. I think he was being the big brother to her in that scene. I DO think, based on glances exchanged, that awkwardness will ensue. She’s “tired of losing people” and he says, “so am I”. Beth will begin to see him as a constant in her life. He is someone who protects her, for a long time now, whom she hasn’t lost. A crush will develop. He sees her stoney, emotionless reaction to her boyfriend’s demise and I think it makes him take pause. He doesn’t want to end up like that. I fear that he and Carol will grow closer and Beth will become jealous. I fear that will cause problems. No matter, because at least one of the three of them will be dead before the season is out, unfortunately. Mark my words.
That being said…ZOMG! Pookie is the best thing ever!! I love #TeamCaryl.
It wasn’t the most action-packed episode. The Big Stop scenes were pretty cool. Walkers falling from the ceiling will definitely be added to my list of personal nightmares. I can’t wait to see what happens next week!
