Sharing What They Know…

March 16, 2013

For this week’s Saturday Special, I’ve decided to highlight not one, but TWO people who are doing some cool things. Michael can educate you in the world of Irish music and Kristin can teach you to sing it!

First, is Kristin Jann-Fischer. She is an actress, comedian, and musician. And she’s also a friend. I met Kristin in the fall of 2010, when we were both cast in the Rocky Horror Show. Since then, we don’t see each other as often, but we keep up like most people do–texts and tweets. Like most people paying their dues in the entertainment industry, Kristin was waiting tables by day and acting in plays at night. She also performs with Over The Counter Improv. Recently, she made a bold move. Kristin quit her day job in order to focus on the life she loves. Kristin began teaching. She gives voice and guitar lessons out of her South Charlotte home, and let me just say…girl can sing! She knows fame and fortune doesn’t come for all, and certainly not overnight, so until it finds her, Kristin is using her talents towards others. She’s funny, she’s patient and she knows her stuff. The students love her! If you want to learn how to sing…truly, learn how to sing…she’s your gal. Plus, it’s fun to turn on the television and see her in a commercial and be able to tell people, “Yeah…I sang with her.”  Her acting resume is impressive as well. I expect big things from Kristin.

The second person I’m going to highlight is Michael O’Connor. Not only is he the host of the Blog Talk Radio Show Some Good Craic, he is my big brother.

Some Good Craic started as a hobby. The word, craic, is Gaelic for ‘fun’ and that’s exactly what Michael–aka Dart Head Mike–is known for. His weekly program showcases the best in Irish music. Mike lets you know when and where bands will be playing, and his musical guests and interviews are always entertaining. Mike knows a few things about celebrating all that is Irish; he was born on St. Patrick’s Day, the first-born son of an Irishman from Dublin, our father Brendan, may he rest in peace. For those of you looking to get your Irish on this weekend, you might want to check out Some Good Craic and brush up on the tunes.

So check them both out when you have the time. Their links are on the sidebar. Have fun and be safe this weekend. Céad Mile Fáilte.
