What an awesome day! Once again, we worked for Charlotte Comicon. We were in charge of the costume contest, registration table, and basic crowd control. The hubby handled video and photography duties for their website and marketing–I’ve seen some of the proofs, and not to brag or anything, but I swear his work gets better and better with each show.
Today was extra special, though, because Walker Bait Productions hosted the first panel at Charlotte Comicon. It was called ‘Zombie 101’ and featured our special guest Jeremiah Scott. Jeremiah is an actor and recording artist who has appeared on numerous TV shows, including The Walking Dead. He’s been killed by both Michonne and Beth. What a great guy! We had a blast. The panel was set to begin at 11:30 and run for 30 minutes. At 10:30, the hotel management found another 20 chairs for us. By 11:00, all seats were taken (approx 50):
And by the time I started the dub-step Walking Dead theme for our intro music, people were seated on the floor along both side walls and at the back of the room they were crammed in like sardines in a can. It was incredible.
Most of you know that I host trivia a few nights a week. I have no problem getting on the microphone in a dark bar or restaurant and commanding a room for 2 hours. But for some reason, this overwhelmed me. I guess I had no idea so many people would want to hear what we had to say. There were people standing in the door ways trying to get a look. I was so nervous!
Jeremiah and I got a long great. He told us about how they apply the different types of zombie makeup, how long it takes to apply and remove. He discussed movement, facial expressions, tics, and so forth; all things that would make you stand out and be the best possible zombie that you can be. We took volunteers from the crowd to demonstrate different types of zombies and “attack” other spectators. Then we opened it up for an audience Q&A. They asked some really good questions about the number of extras used, CGI effects, how they filmed the stunts for his “kill” scenes as a “hero” walker. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I was entirely giddy listening to him talk about behind-the-scenes action. And can I just say….Jeremiah has the creepy face and zombie stagger down! In a fraction of a second he can transform himself from a smiling, laughing, charismatic guy, to a genuinely horrifying walker. I LOVED IT!!
Unfortunately, our video camera stopped working. But, we did manage to get some video footage with the iphone. Once we get that edited, it will be available on our youtube channel. And I will be linking to the Charlotte Comicon’s official photos to show off some of the spectacular costumes that came through! I didn’t envy the judges one bit! So many choices….so many originals this time (as opposed to a sea of Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Batman). So, stay tuned!
Now it’s time for me to hit the sack. It was a long day and my tired feet are killing me. But it was so absolutely worth it. So far, all of the reviews that have come in were positive. That makes me feel good inside. I’m already brainstorming what to do for the December show. Oh yes! Walker Bait Productions hosting panels at Charlotte Comicon is a concept that is here to stay! Anyhow, I do need to be up early in the morning. I have a 3.5hr drive to Charleston to the CF clinic. I have enrolled in a year long research study and need to have some preliminary tests done. I’ll be back tomorrow evening, and hopefully, I’ll be able to start posting Charlotte Comicon pictures by then.
Have a great night! And thank you all, so much, for coming out today (and/or keeping up on social media) as I did my ‘Nerdist’ thing today. The support is greatly appreciated.
