It’s Stalking Dead Sunday, and sadly, season three is coming to a close. With only two new episodes remaining, and the promise of 20+ deaths in next week’s finale, my stomach is in complete knots.
No one wants to see their favorite characters die. But in a series like The Walking Dead, it’s an inevitability. They are fighting a war that cannot be won. After all, “we’re all infected” right? It’s arrogant and selfish to think that anyone will survive in the long run. It’s not a matter of if, but when will it happen. It’s a good bet that between now and next week a number of fans will be in an uproar for one reason or another.
I’m reminded of that line from the movie Braveheart, “Every man dies. Not every many truly lives.” Or something like that. To me, that’s the Walking Dead. They are all going to die. But it’s what they do with the time they have left…that’s what has us all so emotionally invested. Emotionally invested? Who am I kidding? Clearly I meant to say obsessed.
The Walking Dead Enthusiasts have announced a pretty fun contest. You have to predict which characters you think will bite it (no pun intended) in the finale. You can follow them on Facebook and Twitter, or just go to their website for contest details. Every time I think I’ve made my choices, I begin to second guess myself and change my answers. I’ll submit my ballot eventually. I think it’s pretty obvious that we’re losing a bunch of secondary characters. But, it wouldn’t be the Walking Dead if we didn’t lose at least one, if not two, main characters. Get your tissues ready. I have a feeling this will be upsetting.
Screw it. Here’s my completed entry. We’ll see how right–or very wrong–I am next Sunday.
