It’s Thespian Thursday. Time to celebrate all that I enjoy in the world of acting. I have the privilege this week of promoting not one, but two amazing local productions opening tonight.
First, we have A Behanding in Spokane. It is a fairly new show; its first run on Broadway was in 2010. Behanding was written by Martin McDonagh, an Irish playwright known for works like In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths (love and love, btw). With a cast of four, this dark comedy is about Carmichael (S Wilson Lee) who has been searching for his missing left hand for 27 years, leading him to a botched encounter with two young drug dealers (Norman Burt and Katie Bearden) with a hand to sell in a hotel overseen by a monkey-obsessed former-speed-addict (David Hensley) with a grudge. Did you get all that?
The show’s director, Nathan K. Rouse, has been having way too much fun working on this with the cast, “Who doesn’t want to direct a show with a name like A Behanding in Spokane? The hand puns alone make it worth it.”
Presented by Long Walk Productions, A Behanding in Spokane will run March 14-16 at 8pm at the Main Street Theatre, 1326 West Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29732. Tickets are $15 each. And be advised, the show has some Adult Content.
Perhaps you’re more in the mood for a musical this weekend? And maybe you couldn’t afford tickets to go see Wicked in Charlotte, NC for the 3rd time? (sigh) Well, then you’re in luck!
Nation Ford High School, in Fort Mill, SC, proudly presents Disney’s Beauty & the Beast! Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students, with student rush price of $5 on Sunday. Show dates are March 14-16 at 7:30pm and March 17 matinee at 3pm. I have seen a number of productions at this High School and trust me, they go all out! Beautiful sets, gorgeous colorful costumes, and a seemingly endless talent pool. These kids know what they’re doing. Go see the show. You’re in for a treat! And if you’re anything like me, you’ll be singing along throughout the show.
“Be our guest! Be our guest! Put our service to the test…”
